handmade cheongsam

Both QQ and I were wearing cheongsam during our Chinese New Year celebration last year. QQ's was wearing a cheongsam dress, and mine a cheongsam blouse. Mine was bought, QQ's was handmade :-)
I used a Japanese basic dress pattern as the base, and widen the neckline and armholes. I also made the body of the dress wider for a more comfy fit. Unlike other traditional cheongsam dress which is fitted/ straight cut, I made the skirt A-line, roomy and comfy for a toodler. The fabric that I used was a light pink cotton fabric with sweet pink and purple flowers.

The raised Chinese collar and opening were based on my own pattern, and I was delighted that it turned out so well :-). I used 2 bars of purple satin piping and 3 sets of purple Chinese frog buttons to create the details. I also left small slits at the bottom of the skirt at both sides to complete the look. That was QQ's first cheongsam, year 2009.

I have some ideas for CNY year 2010, but nothing concrete yet... what would be nice this year? :-) See my other handmade projects.

Hello BJ, wow! Where's the photo? Ha ha.
A cheong sum blouse looks fantastic on jeans too.
One day saw a Caucasian lady in her 30's, she a real looker too, wearing a cheong sum blose I think she bought in our Chinatown...and her designer jeans.

She sure made heads turn! Include mine.
Hey, thats a lovely pic of you and daughter. She's real pretty. No need to see or ask where she has her good looks from, *wink*, ha ha.

You have a nice day, Lee.
if free drop by, but suggest you drink a cup of hot coffee first.
