QQ's handmade CNY dress

QQ was the lucky recipient of this loot last Christmas, gift from my sister. She loves all her presents. Me too :-). I did say in my earlier post that I wish to replicate the stripes dress, so for QQ's CNY dress, I did just that!

From this dress: To this: Of course I made enough changes to make the outcome totally different, but the basic cut of the dress was similar :-).

I chose a bold chili red fabric for this year. As usual, I added some traditional details to it, like the mandarin collar and the Chinese frog buttons (for the closure). The skirt was gathered at the bodice and drops exactly below her knees, creating lots of space for a toddler's active movements. I added puffed sleeves too, so the overall look is not too traditional, kind of like a modern kiddy cheongsam dress :-).And of course, I have to make a pair of hairclips to match. They are just simple gathered knit material with a center of black buttons, glued to snap hairclips. Sorry for the grainy picture, but this is the best I could manage, before they were yanked off her hair by QQ :-). My little girl absolutely loves it! See my other handmade projects.
