First trip to KL birdpark here. This would HQ's second trip.
On 29 May 2010, my company organised a treasure hunt at KL Bird Park. The organiser told us that we could bring our family along. Hubby was in Jakarta for a month long so I brought HQ as my date :-). I asked to be exempted from the treasure hunt, fearing that that the race would be too taxing for a 5 year old, but the organiser encouraged me to have my kid join along. So I thought, okie, it'll be a good experience for HQ :-). HQ was mindful not to let QQ know about the whole arrangement as he said Meimei will want to follow but couldn't. Anyway, Meimei still cried when we left, eventhough she didn't know we were going to the birdpark. She just wanted to come along...
When we arrived, breakfast was served. HQ had taken some porridge at popo's house, so he skipped that and was busy taking photos of birds who "joined" us for brekkie.
HQ took this shot, I think these are called herons. Beautiful hornbill. After breakfast, we gathered at the entrance for a briefing. There's a pond, and HQ wanted to feed the fishes very much. We met our team members, Justin and Hakimi. First task - seggregating a meddly of 5 different beans into 5 different cups. After which, we collected our kit with task instructions and map. One of us was to dress as a baby with the two clothes given, so Justin was given the "privilege" :-). Starting off... Justin doing some explanations to some of HQ's questions. During the hunt, HQ prefers to walk along/ hold his hand rather than mine... they get along pretty well :-) We had to finish a stack of tasks - dipping legs into ice buckets to retrieve numbers; dipping hands into mystery (and very yucky) buckets to retrieve a picture of a bird and to locate its name later; answering a list of questions; taking a list of photos; finding a marshall and doing the task she gave us, walking with 2 eggs below armpits, etc.
And so we tore around the whole bird park, running and sweating, many times going back to the same locations again and again to finish off some tasks... for the whole 2 hours. We were all exhausted. HQ was going from place to place with us, dashing as fast as his little legs could carry him. And I must say, he even ran faster than me :-).
After the hunt, we enjoyed a bird show at the amphitheatre. At 1pm, when the show finished, we left for lunch. But of course, along the way, HQ had to stop at the nursery to pet some chicks and ducklings :-). He just went on and grab them, stroked their heads and put them back. He was rather gentle with them and love them so much! When HQ finally agreed to leave for lunch, I think he was already starving desperately. It was a looooonnng way out to the restaurant too. He tripped once along the way; largely my fault, I was not looking when I pulled him along :-(. And while I was brushing off his knees, he sobbed that he missed his Papa (haven't seen his Papa for a month, except when Papa came back for 26 hours for his birthday 2 weeks ago). I really felt for him then; if Papa was here, Papa would have carried him instead.
When we arrived the restaurant, everyone was already tucking in. I went to the food station and got food for both of us. HQ wanted to top up on his chicken nuggets and got scalded by the hot pan... adui, poor little chap. That did it... hungry, hot, tired, tripped, missing his Papa and now a scalded arm - a VERY bad combination. He was totally on strike after that... refusing to talk. And I totally understood. He already bahaved very well that day, friendly, running around with us adults, resisting temptations of all the birds and fishes, all without much of a complaint. So in my eyes, he's already my little champion :-).
He cheered up a teeny bit when he saw Korkor Justin. After lunch, Korkor Justin untied 2 balloons for him, and carried him down the staircase for a group photo. And later even bought him an ice-cream :-). Thank you, Korkor Justin! After everyone left, we stayed back to feed the fishes (as promised earlier). HQ got a lot happier, looking at the fishes and feeding them, after an ice-cream and some rest :-).
Back in Popo's house, HQ yakked non-stop with his little sister, gave her a balloon and showed her the photos taken in the birdpark. Looks like he did enjoyed the trip :-). It was cute watching him narrating the photos and QQ asking questions. I was quite surprised that QQ did not fuss about leaving her behind with Popo while we went to the birdpark. Now that Papa is back, we can go out as a family, ok? :-)
