Amongst other things that they built, this caught my attention. A campfire! HQ must have learnt this from Word World, where frogie went camping with piggy.

He took a pencil, pierced it into the hole of a seal squeky toy and is barbequing it over the "fire". And look at his tongue licking his lips... as if he's anticipating to eat the seal! LOL!!!

HQ recovered first followed by QQ. Last Sunday (25 July; 5 days after the kids were diagnosed), although the ulcers on her tongue had not recovered fully, QQ was already feeding herself rice and soup with steamed fish. And even asked for second helping! 
I'm so glad that it's all over now and the kids are back to their activ selves. So did QQ quit pacifier after she recovered? Fat chance! She insisted for it yesterday, saying that her ulcers got well already *slap forehead*
I customised the t-shirt with a hand-sewn princess crown, little diamonds and QQ's initials. Her skirt is a tiered twirly skirt. Also handmade :-). She has a hairclip to match too, but she's not wearing it in the picture above because she left it at home (we're at my mum's).

In our family, birthdays are often celebrated within the family in a small scale. We went out for dinner at a favourite neighbourhood restaurant and had cake afterwards. Food we had... fried mantis prawns, steamed fish, fish maw soup, sweet & sour meat and mixed vegetables stirfried in belacan sauce (only partly in picture). My brother, the kids' Kiu kiu treated dinner. 
After dinner, we went to mum's and while waiting for the food to go down, the kids had a drawing and colouring session. Colouring set was Kiu kiu's present to QQ :-). Here's Kiu kiu entertaining the kids with his drawing. Can you guess what is it?

Later, we got the cake ready... Dad's favourite Secret Recipe carrot and walnut sheet cake.

HQ wanted to serve us, so he cut the slices, placed them onto plates and served all of us :-).

I must say, he did a good job serving us one by one... no mess. But with a 5 year old, this is bound to happen... he licking the cake knife :-P... kids are so spontaneous :-D.

Working this to our advantage, we set a rule that they have to finish their main meals before they indulge in their chosen desserts. So they eat super fast :-D.
QQ's choice was healthier; little bits of mango, honeydew and sago in shaved mango ice
If we let them, they will finish up the desserts and lap the bowls clean. And cough their lungs out afterwards, especially QQ. So we set another rule... they have to share their desserts with us... haha!

Do your kids love ice-cold drinks or desserts? Do you bribe them like we do? :-P
This is a recent photo of QQ... 2 years 11 months old. The insert is me at about 4 years old at my paternal side grandpa's house (with a very dorky boyish hairstyle :-D). Hubby said QQ and my smiles look alike here. I think our eyes too. 
He mentioned about alarm systems, some automatic lock systems and was describing how they work together. 
And nearby, QQ was building what she called a Princess Castle. HQ, the opportunist jumped to that opportunity and offered to protect the King and the Queen with his army.
Where the army trained, HQ set up a little space with rows and rows of blocks and plastic cubes. He explained that these were soldiers arranged according to their different levels of "power" (or prowness). This was the position they assumed in case the enemy comes to attack.
And this... was the spaceship, the strongest weapon (I assume it's an ultimate weapon). HQ was very detailed... according to him, the 3 blocks behind held down the spaceship and would be released when it takes off.

Completed with a matching ribbon that he found from a paperbag and asked mum to tie on. I must say he has good colour co-ordination, and he made it really presentable :-).
I was so touched!!! :') Although it's all recycled materials (come on, how can a little 5 year old go out shopping? and with no pocket money?), I loved the thoughts behind the gift :-D.
