here you go...

"Aunty Hoyoyi,

Here's a picture of me standing "guai-guai" wearing the dress that you saw in previous article.

So... where's my Christmas present? Hee hee

Love from,
QQ."

Actually I took this picture together with the last batch. But I didn't upload it until Hoyoyi asked about it :-).

If you do not know, Hoyoyi makes very cute handmade booties and bibs for babies, which make great baby shower gifts. Go visit her at her blog here :-).

a perfect couple: wedding dinners

back-dated post: 13 Nov 2010 & 14 Nov 2010

My brother got engaged on the 30th October 2010, which I've blogged about earlier.

This was followed by the wedding and tea ceremony on the 13th November 2010. The first wedding dinner was held on the wedding evening itself. It was a cosy dinner party held in one of the restaurant in our little town. This dinner party was meant for friends and relatives who live here.

I blogged about QQ's handmade party dress that she wore to this dinner earlier. This is my cheeky HQ, mixing drinks into his mouth *slap forehead* On the next night, we went to KL for the another wedding dinner. This dinner was at much bigger scale for everyone else not staying in our small town :-). Here's some pictures of the night:

My dress that night... yes, I know, where's the dangling earings? Necklace? Black stockings? False lashes? Hee hee With my sweet sister. She's my elder sister, but since school days, everyone thought I'm the elder one! She's been very supportive with my little venture ... thanks a bunch, sis!!!
My sis' littliest one... isn't he cuteeeee!!!
HQ's favourite dish that night... he ate 3 bowls!!! QQ's fave that night...
QQ wore a mama's handmade dress, which I only managed to finish 2 hours before the wedding dinner! I finished sewing the dress only the night before, rinsed it in the morning and hang out to dry. While the dress was drying, I worked on the details like the sash and the frills at the bottom of the skirt. When the dress was dried enough, I speed sewn the frills on. Iron it and cool it down before QQ wore it. Talk about stress... phew!!! She had fun that night, dancing the night away, and it's all worth it :-). QQ went up the stage to dance attempted to sing... was very ladylike when she did this...
she was an adorable princess that night...

until she did this

a poignant video

Attending HQ's concert last Saturday brought me back to the days when he first started school at 3 years old. We enrolled him to school in June 2008. He was so eager to start school then, and he managed on his own without tears even on his first day of school. I'm so proud of him :-).

This video was recorded on his first school concert when he was 3 years old. He did a solo song performance in Mandarin, which hubby had recorded for me and QQ to view in the hospital. QQ was hospitalised for pneumonia and bronchitis at that time, and we were not able to attend HQ's first school concert.

video

He was the only 3-year-old kid performing solo among other 6-year-olds. When we asked him why he stopped for a little while in the middle of his song, he said because he saw his Papa amongst the crowd. I can imagine how nervous he was on that stage, and how he missed his mama after 3 days not seeing me. Everytime I watch this video, it brings tears to my eyes. Eventhough he halted for a little while, I am so proud of him that he did not make a dash for his Papa, but instead stood firmly on his feet and finished his song performance.

There is never a day that I'm not proud of you, my son :')

HQ's school concert

back-dated post: 13 November 2010

HQ's school concert cum graduation day was held on last Saturday. Luckily the event only starts at 3.00pm, as last Saturday was also the day my brother got married. So in the morning, we attended my brother's wedding and tea ceremony, then rushed off to the concert. Right after the concert which ended at 6.30pm, we rushed home for our quick bathes and a change of clothes before rushing to the wedding dinner.

As there are only 60 students in HQ's school, the concert cum graduation day was done in a small scale. Although it was simple and only held in the town's community hall, it was a very memorable event for us. As this is only my first time attending HQ's concert. I had to miss HQ's first concert when he was 3 years old as QQ was hospitalised for pneumonia and bronchitis. When HQ was 4 years old, we transferred him to another kindy late that year, and was too late to join the concert. So, at 5 years old now, it was my first time attendng HQ's concert :-).

HQ and his classmate waiting for their turns.
HQ's turn on stage; he's the first on the right. He participated in 2 performances, with a few of his classmates. HQ went on stage to receive an "outstanding pupil award" for the year.
Another award for doing well in his examinations for both terms. Well done, my boy :-D.

QQ's party dress :-)

I made this dress for QQ to wear for my brother's wedding dinner recently. Managed to finish the dress the night before the wedding :-D

I love this fabric that I had in my stash. This is the same fabric that I used to make this red cheongsam :-). It is 100% cotton and feels very rich to the touch. Very soft and comfortable too. I have only a meter left, and desperately looking everywhere to stock up more of this good quality same shade of red fabric!

The bodice of the dress is gathered at the neckline and sleeves, creating princess sleeves. A black band with white polkadots adorns the waist, and it billows to a puffy skirt below. I added a tutu beneath her skirt, which made the skirt even puffier :-D. She seriously looked so cute in it :-D.

It's a shame that I can't get a decent picture of her in it... she's either seated and we can't see her puffed up skirt or she's wearing a cardigan over her dress. Here's one not so clear picture of her standing with Gong gong, Popo and HQ. Can you see that everyone is not looking at the camera? For now, I'll just look at this cute little face of hers and be really contented :-).

a perfect match: engagement

back-dated post: 30th October 2010

I have a brother. He's 2 years younger than me, but everyone thought he's my elder brother. I like to think that that's because I look younger *big grin*, but truthfully, that's because he's more mature than me, in speech, behaviour and thinking.

So, last weekend, my brother tied the knot with the lady of his dreams, MY. Which I will blog later. Today's blog entry is about their engagement party on 30th October 2010.

"Welcome to the family, MY. You and my bro really make such a cute couple :-)"

Now for pictures :-)

Here, we were getting ready to leave for the party. Yes, HQ is being cheeky there :-). Barb, can you see those sparkly shoes? Fitted like gloves! How did you guess her size? QQ received many compliments that night and she felt like a princess! Thanks again :-D.

Some of the wedding shots taken by Meg Cheah. Meg is a budding and talented photographer, and also the bride's "chi mui". She's so nice to let me borrow the pictures that she shot. Thanks, Meg :-). MY, the radiant and beautiful bride :-) The wedding registration ceremony: Night shots:
The kids blowing beautiful soap bubbles. QQ (most right) had to change her cheongsam as she poured the whole bottle of soap solution on her dress :-PI must say the party organisers (who were also the owners of the place) were very good in entertaining the kids... lots of kiddos activities plus yummy cakes and treats :-).
Look, beautiful sparkles! But we had to leave when the sparkles were out due to QQ's allergy to smoke... Remember to hop on to Meg Cheah's blog to view more of her beautiful pictures... night and day :-).

You must be wondering... where is this place?!?! Nice right? :-D I was entranced by it as well.

The engagement party was held at sekeping tenggiri. It's a "resort" at a small scale. Just 7 rooms available, but it is the design of the place that makes the place stood out. By the way, it's a bungalow lot in the middle of Bangsar. Very unique architecture, comfortable nature setting, lungs of the city. If there's anyone looking for a place to put up for the night (and they are adventorous), I'll recommend this place :-).

For now, let's leave the newly-weds to ponder upon their beautiful future together :-). Special thanks to:
- sekeping tenggiri
- Meg Cheah

bloggers meet :-)

back-dated post: 16th October 2010

Hui Nih was back from Netherlands last month, and a few of us managed to have a meet up with her. Hui Nih is such a gentle, soft-spoken and patient mummy, and her kids, Sethy and Sophie are so beautiful and well-behaved!

It was a working Saturday for me and when I got home from work, I literally rushed everyone into the car. Haha!

We were already running late, so we skipped the bookstore (where we're supposed to meet) and head straight to the cafe. As expected, everyone was already tucking in. My kids were starving, and I concentrated at getting food for them, while trying to chat with other mummies :-). In my kelam-kabutness, I forgot my camera, so photos here are borrowed from Hui Nih :-).

Group photo... can see Sethy here...Another group photo... can see Sophie here...
You can see Hui Nih's photo entry here, and Chin Nee's entry here.

This was my first time meeting them... Hui Nih, Chin Nee, Rachel, Agnes & Syn. Glad that we made it to meet them up. Many thanks to Chin Nee for organising it! :-D

instant gratification

I finished these bags for an order last night. Just need to sew on the buttons and they're good to go.

Everytime I sew these bags, I remember how excited my kiddos were when they first saw them. And I would imagine other kids being excited as well. That puts a smile on my face :-).

Sewing is more than just a hobby to me. It is like a therapy. I guess it's the monotonous humming of the machine in the stillness of the night (amidst peaceful snoring :-)) that I find soothing. Something slow that helps me wind down. Something that gives me instant gratification. Something that I hope will bring joy to someone else :-).
