Hubs and I were discussing how our national diver, Pandelela Rinong won a bronze medal for our country during the 2012 Olympic. We both agreed that she deserves to be awarded the Datukship.
I then wondered aloud why women are awarded the "Datuk" title and not "Datin". Why is it that their husbands do not automatically enjoy the Datuk title? Like how it is when a man is awarded the Datuk title, the wife automatically becomes a Datin.
QQ who overheard exclaimed:
QQ: When a man is a datuk (Malay: grandfather), the wife is nenek (Malay: grandmother)!!! My Teacher teach me one!
