their second experience :-)

Back-dated post

So following the shooting of Happy Family, which was done at my grandfather's house, my aunt asked my mum whether I would be interested to let my kids appear in the movie. I asked both HQ and QQ, and they gave a resounding "yes". So, together with 6 other kids, they had a short appearance.

Happy Family, a local movie produced by NTV7, was aired on the first day of Chinese New Year 2012 (23rd Jan 2012) at 10pm. Here's the little snippet where my kids appeared in:

Can you recognize them? :-) QQ was the youngest in the group, but had to move 2 spaces up due to her height :-). HQ too moved up 2 spaces for the same reason :-)

This would be the second time they had a chance to appear on national television :-). Their first stint was when they were 4 and 2 years old in this Kiwi Kleen television commercial :-).

Though it was a brief appearance, and their roles were pretty small, the kids had fun :-). And I enjoyed watching them on tv that CNY night *excited mama!*. Oh, they missed the whole thing when it was aired on tv as they were already in slumberland :-D.

my late grandfather's house

Back-dated post

My late grandfather had a pair of gifted hands. He was an amazing builder, a talented wood carver and his brush strokes on textured Chinese paper were highly regarded.

The house that my grandfather built stood proudly in the village where I grew up in. When I was a child, I often run my fingers on benches, chest of drawers, feeling the textures of beautiful carvings which my grandfather had spent so much time on. It amazed me that pieces as small as drawer handles can be carved so delicately. This structure which many had called home (my grandfather had 8 kids!) was also adorned with scrolls of my granfather's drawings and Chinese characters. What made the home even more charming was its spacious and enchanting garden, which I had blogged here before.

More than sixty years has passed since the impressive home was constructed. My grandfather passed away few decades ago. Ever since, many changes had taken place.

My single second aunt and youngest uncle's family still stay in the house. Contemporary fixtures and furnitures replaced the old and antique. Walls were torn down together with the precious paintings. The charming garden was left to deteriorate; many beautiful plants uprooted. I never enjoy going back there anymore. The atmosphere is now totally different from what I remembered as a child.

In the month of June last year, a team of movie producers from NTV7 (a reputable local television channel) came knocking. They were looking for a village home to shoot a movie to be aired on NTV7 during Chinese New Year 2012. They made rounds in many villages in their quest for a village home with unique architecture, and they fell in love with my late grandfather's house.

Even when the home has been altered so much, someone still sees the charm of it's earliest architecture :').

The entire movie was shot in the house and it's surroundings. Even with screen effects, the outcome cannot compare to the house's original state like how I remembered many many years ago. The name of the movie is Happy Family, and it was aired on NTV7 on the first day of Chinese New Year 2012 (23rd Jan 2012) at 10pm. Here are some shots of the house that I've cropped from the movie:
Isn't my grandfather's home beautiful? :-)
